We’ve chosen the gardens and assigned the playwrights, who are busy working on their plays. Soon we’ll have directors and actors, a schedule, and more! But in the meantime, we have a couple of announcements.
WE’VE MOVED TO BROOKLYN
That’s right – after three years (primarily) in Manhattan, we’re taking the festival to Bed-Stuy and Clinton Hill. We can’t wait to explore a whole new area in a whole new borough, and we hope you’ll join us!
WE HAVE A NEW CO-PRODUCER
Friend, collaborator, and Communal Spaces 2012 alum Chris Norwood joins me as co-producer this year. Because…
WE HAVE STARTED A NEW COMPANY
Yes! Chris and I have decided not only to co-produce Communal Spaces, but to use this year’s festival as the starting point for our new theater company The Motor Company. The Motor Company is a new theater company dedicated to creating and producing theater that is accessible, community-oriented, and free. Our mission is to heighten our relationship to our city and our surroundings by using public spaces for story-telling and theatrical events. We produce site-responsive new works and classical texts in spaces that augment their meaning and our the audience’s relationship to the place.
We are so excited about all the new developments this year. We’ll keep you posted as the summer goes on. In the meantime, check out the Communal Spaces 2014 page, and stay tuned for our fundraising campaign, coming soon!
